Requiem in D minor, K. 636

All music lovers know the world’s most prolific and influential composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, K. 636, but to have heard it being performed on a recording, and experiencing a live performance of it, are two different things. And when the opportunity arises to indulge in pure inexplicable musical mastery, sit back and let the music sink deep into your soul, and reach the catharsis the composer intended, you should grab it with both hands.

The Columbus Symphony

This season’s performance of Mozart’s incredible Requiem is set to be an exceptional experience - one like you’ve never heard before. Composer Gregory Spears has reimagined the iconic work by blending remnants of Bach and Mozart with incredible Romantic harmonies and modern nuances, complete with the added Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei - bringing centuries old classical gold into the modern era. Columbus Symphony musical director and renowned conductor Rossen Milanov is set to lead the orchestra with his usual vivid and precise leadership, and will feature the incredible talents of soprano Lydia Grindatto, mezzo soprano Mariya Kaganskaya, tenor Victor Starsky, and bass Cumhur Görgün, alongside the Columbus Symphony Chorus under the leadership of chorus director Stephen Caracciolo.

A Work Of Beauty

Mozart’s Requiem is a work of immense beauty - powerful yet delicate, grand yet intimate. From the haunting yet majestic Introitus and the memorable trombone solos in Taba Mirum to the explosive and powerful Dies Irae and the sorrowful and moving Lacrimosa, together with the added Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei, the Columbus Symphony’s performance of the Requiem is a moving tribute to Mozart’s immeasurable, unparalleled musical genius. The work is filled with suffering, love, human elements and the divine, and to every single listener, a deeply spiritual and emotionally moving experience.
