The hills are alive this winter – and so are we! The Ohio Theatre, nestled right in the heart of downtown Columbus and one of the most iconic and historic venues in the entire state, is absolutely thrilled to welcome The Sound of Music Theatre Tour to its stage this February on Tuesday the 24th. One of the most beloved and enduring musicals of all time, this brand new North American Tour has been dazzling audiences across the country with its sweeping storytelling, heart-filled performances, and those legendary Rodgers & Hammerstein songs that somehow feel just as moving as the first time you heard them. The tour has been hitting over fifty five shows since last September (!!),  including places like The Kennedy Center in D.C., the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, Shea’s Buffalo Theatre, and The Fox in Atlanta – and now, it’s coming right here to Columbus for one night only! Yay for us!

With a story that takes us from the peaceful halls of Nonnberg Abbey to the looming shadow of the Austrian Alps during the rise of World War II, The Sound of Music follows Maria Rainer – a young woman torn between the life she imagined and the life she’s called to live. Through music, she finds herself becoming a mother figure to the von Trapp children and discovers the kind of courage it takes to stand up for family, love, and freedom in the face of darkness. She also loves to break out into song and deliver us some of the best nursery tunes and childhood cult classics that have transcended decades and permeated all parts of culture. 

Featuring songs like My Favorite Things, Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, and of course the title number – this show isn’t just a nostalgic trip; it’s a breathtaking reminder of how music brings people together in the moments we need it most. Whether you grew up with the film, fell in love with the stage version, or are introducing someone to the story for the first time – The Sound of Music is one of those shows that lives in your heart long after the curtain falls.
